Town of Troutville
In 1881 the railroad came through and a station was built in what is now the town of Troutville, named after brothers John, Jim and George Trout. An important shipping center in the 1890’s, Troutville today is a thriving town with many shops and a well know stopping point on the Appalachian Trail.

Historic Figures: Many historic figures such as George Washington, Merriweather Lewis, William Clark, Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson traveled through what is now the Town of Troutville.
History
Modern day Troutville continues a tradition of wonderful living, Native Americans and colonial settlers recognized the abundant game and water supplies to the area. The Industrial 1800s brought railroads, canning and poultry. Troutville was formally incorporated as a town in 1956.
Troutville offers much for permanent residents and visitors alike. The town
is home to a delightful municipal park, small shops, and a variety of local businesses. The Appalachian Trail crosses the South end of town. Annual Events include the Party in the Park, a community-wide flea market, and a Fireman's Carnival.
Today Troutville charms visitors with its friendly people and small town atmosphere. Residents enjoy modern utilities such as a public water supply and high-speed Internet. Roanoke, located 15-minutes from Troutville is home to major retailers and a full-service airport.

Bird Watching at Woodpecker Ridge Nature Center -Woodpecker Ridge Nature Center offers birders and nature enthusiasts numerous opportunities for wildlife watching.
Cycling on the TransAmerican Trail (Route 76) - Cyclists traveling
cross country are welcome to spend the night camping in the Troutville Town Park.
Playing or Relaxing in the Troutville Town Park - Whether it's a picnic or a family reunion, a brisk walk around the quarter mile walking path, or just playing with he kids, Troutville Town Park is for you.
Buy local produce at the Farmer's Market - The Town of Troutville will have a farmer's market in the Town Park on Saturdays starting May 8th and lasting until October 30th. Local and area farmers, crafters and value added producers will be setting up shop at Shelter B from 7:00 AM until 12:00 PM every Saturday. Sponsored by the Friends of the Park.

- Party in the Park is held the 2nd Saturday in September.
- Annual Community Yard Sale and Flea Market held in the Troutville Town Park the 3rd Saturday in April.
- Clean Valley Days - The first Saturday in April and October the local citizens lend their time keeping the Valley Green.
- National Day of Prayer held the first Thursday in May with a celebration at Troutville Town Park.
- Senior Swing Dance and Dinner every Memorial Day weekend.
